On the following pages are the pictures from Peru. I was lucky enough to be invited by Richard Bangs, the visionary behind Mungo Park, one of the best jobs I held at Microsoft. Peru was a fabulous trip. We went rafting, took a helicopter ride and explored Cusco but the heart of it was a three day 26 mile trek along the Inca trail to Machu Picchu. Now 26 miles doesn't sound like too long a distance until you realize that the majority of the hike was above 10,000 feet. While some people in the group didn't seem to be slowed at all by the altitude, I have no problem admitting that the second day was the most physically challenging day I've ever had. On any sort of incline, let alone the thousands of stairs, a normal stride left me gasping for air and I quickly learned to take very slow deliberate steps. That wasn't a hardship though because it gave me more time to enjoy the incredible beauty that surrounds the Inca trail. I hope you enjoy these pictures, my only disappointment is that they don't do the scenery justice. The scale was simply too huge and the light often didn't cooperate, but at least they'll give you a sense of what I saw. Enjoy!
