Since I was in Sweden in January 2002 I had to take a side trip into Norway. While Sweden is relatively flat, Norway is extremely rugged and mountainous. I loved the scenery, particularly the train ride from Oslo to Bergen, which many people consider to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Of course going over a high mountain pass in winter meant that the ride was through a wasteland of snow. The best part of the trip though was the two hours I spent on a boat riding through a tiny portion of one of the Fjords. Not even a snowstorm could dampen my good mood as I reveled in the terrain. I don't have the words to describe it and as good as the pictures are, they don't even come close to giving you a taste of the experience. If you get a chance, winter or summer, definitely take a cruise in the Norwegian Fjords. You won't regret it. |
