I finally made it to Hawaii for the first time in 2001 around the holidays. I've wanted to visit Pearl Harbor for years so I stayed on Oahu and explored most of the island. As much fun as I had, Honolulu and Waikiki beach are a bit too crowded and busy for my tastes. Everyone I've talked to say go to Kaua'i for beauty and solitude. Next time definitely, but this trip had a differnt purpose. I've wanted to visit Pearl Harbor for years so I took this opportunity and it was everything I had hoped. Touring the Missouri and visiting the Arizona Memorial were both great memories. One of immense power and the sight of the Japanese surrender, the other a sobering reminder of a tremendous tragedy.
