Just a few miles before the takeout, we stopped to take a final picture. Quite a difference from the beginning. Yes we're dirtier, but we're also freer. Fifteen days in the canyon has a way of relaxing and renewing you in a way that no spa ever could. Several times on the trip I caught myself laughing out loud with no one else around and for no reason, other than the fact that I was happy and content. It's a state of mind I hope never to forget.

Is this the end of the journey, or another beginning? Only time will tell but I think I'm just getting started. I doubt if this was the last time I'll see the Grand Canyon.

I'll end these photos with one of my favorites. Not because it's a great shot but because of what it represents. I took this on the last full day on the river. The raft seemed to be beckoning to me, saying here I am, ready to go, don't stop now. It's inviting me to continue the ride, to seek out further adventure. As I write this, I know that most of our crew is back on the river, guiding another trip through the canyon. They're probably eating dinner right now. I envy them and their guests. I can't wait till my next visit.
