I went to England in mid-September to visit old friends and explore the countryside. The first thing I have to do is thank Michaela and Mikael for their incredible hospitality. Providing me with a homebase for the two weeks I was there would have been above and beyond the call of duty, however they also gave me the incredible gift of their company and conversation. As incredible as the English countryside was, the highlight of most days was returning to their home for dinner and an evening of wonderful conversation (often lasting way into the night). They truly made my trip a spectacular one.
If you're expecting photos of London's famous landmarks then you'll be disappointed. I never got into London, instead preferring to drive all around the countryside, visiting ruined abbeys, castles and landmarks. I drove over most of Southern England, from Land's End to Winchester, up to Oxford and across into Wales. In all I put over 1300 miles on the rental car in two short weeks and got a pretty good taste for the countryside, seeing for myself how quickly it changes.
I saw many fabulous and legendary sites. One of my favourites and possibly the prettiest picture I took in England was Tintern Abbey in southeastern Wales. However I also visited Tintangel Castle, the legendary birthplace of King Arthur, as well as Glastonbury Tor, which some say is the site of the Isle of Avalon.
